According to SFGate.com, a San Francisco law firm has filed 85 separate cases against Uber alleging offenses as severe as rape. The firm still has 238 cases it is investigating.
Levin Simes Abrams began filing the cases against the rideshare app in May. The alleged offenses range from sexual harassment and stalking to sexual assault and rape, said attorney Meghan McCormick, who previously worked on a team that filed similar lawsuits against Lyft. The San Francisco Business Times first reported the filings this week.
Of the 85 filed cases, McCormick says 15 allege rape, five involve digit penetration and five allege forced oral sex. Most of the cases were filed in San Francisco Superior Court, as Uber is headquartered in San Francisco.
McCormick said the alleged incidents occurred across the U.S., and the crimes occurred as early as 2014 and as recently as April 2021. Levin Simes Abrams is not pursuing a class-action lawsuit against Uber given the different nature of the crimes.
